Veterans Day? It’s Time to Let Your Imagination Run Wild!

    Nov 9, 2018 Veterans Day

When it comes to patriotic events, trying to be unique is almost seems like an idea that’s only possible in a science fiction story. Luckily, you don’t have to be a wizard or a science fiction genius to borrow these one-of-a-kind DIY ideas, which will make your Veterans Day event more personal!

    Ombre Wreath

Have an assortment of ribbon scraps? Don’t deprive them of the chance for a second life – instead, use them for this stylish ombre wreath. You’ll need our eggplant, purple, burgundy, red, fuchsia, navy blue, royal blue, serenity blue, light blue, white, and ivory thin organza ribbons and an embroidery hoop. Cut your ribbons into scraps of 4 ½ inches long and start making knots all the way around the hoop. After a few knots, cut your ribbons thinner, and scrunch your knots as close as you can. Continue doing this around the whole wreath, trying to achieve the ombre look.

    Paper Straws Wreath

If you do not have large chunks of time nor plenty of patience, you can adorn your front door or mantelpiece with this 20-minute paper straw wreath. You don’t even need to purchase a wire form – you can just make a 6-inch form yourself, using a piece of cardboard and an ordinary Geometry compass. Once you are done with the form, pull out a pack of our red/white paper straws, and “glue-gun” them all the way round the form, mimicking those minute marks on the clock. Make four rows, with the fourth one made of cut off pieces of straws. To evoke that Americana feel, using a piece of serenity blue glittery foam, cut out a couple of stars, and glue them to the wreath.

    Burlap Banner

Can’t imagine your celebratory décor without a burlap banner? Well, this easy burlap banner is for you. You’ll need red, blue, and white acrylic paints (or any other paints, which work well with this fabric), polka dot and stripe artistic stencils, and a plain burlap banner from eFavormart. For the striped pennants, use red paint and a striped stencil. For the polka dot ones, you’ll need to paint the needed pennants blue, and once the paint gets dry, apply white polka dots with the help of the corresponding stencils. For a pop of color and luster, finish everything off with our satin ribbons.

    Ribbon Backdrop

Since no celebration is complete without a stack of photos, adding a stunning backdrop will never hurt, especially, if it won’t steal more than 20 minutes! To recreate this comely American flag ribbon adornment, you’ll have to a branch, a piece of navy blue fabric, and a pile of ribbons scraps, such as red organza, red satin (or polyester), white satin, red/white gingham, and white lace. Using the simple knot technique, arrange the ribbons to mirror the stripes on American flag. Then, cut out a rectangle from the piece of navy-blue fabric and paint stars (or just use a piece of this mini rosettes fabric). Once ready, tie it to the flag and voila – your perfect backdrop is ready to go!

    Bouquet Holders

Just like you can’t imagine any festivity without photos, skipping flowers is unforgivable as well! Of course, you can always use them for a centerpiece. However, your entire venue will acquire that fresh (almost Easter-inspired) feel if you decorate it with these lovely bouquet holders showing off our light blue baby’s breath flowers. To bring this 5-minute project to life, simply pull out your vintage red/white kitchen towels (our stripe burlap runner will also do). If you are dealing with fresh flowers, fold the towel in half in order to cover the zip-seal bag with water, and staple the ends together. Using silk flowers? Not a problem, just skip the zip-seal bag part. In the end, use the clothesline to hang these darlings up.

    Starry Napkins

If you happen to be into muted colors, you’ll jump for joy at the sight of these starry napkins. Can’t wait to see the same ones on your dining table? Well, grab the needed number of our white cotton napkins, DecoArt Ink Effects paint, a brush, and scraps of paper. Paint red and blue stars of different sizes on the multiple paper scraps. Then, place all those stars side down on one of your napkins, cover it with a piece of clean paper, and iron, with no steam, for about 3 minutes, constantly keeping the iron in motion. Peel off the clean paper. Repeat the process with the rest of the napkins.
