An Epic Mermaid Party Setup to Bring your Fantasy to Life

Backdrop

Since the first step for any themed party decor is deciding on the color scheme, we set the foundation for our mermaid party decorations by opting for vibrant shades of blue, green, and purple contrasted with hints of iridescence and metallic hues. However, when it came to setting up a tablescape that’ll teleport the guests to the magical land of mermaids, starting off with decorating the backdrop was a great place to set things in motion.  Thus, drawing inspiration from the oceanic waves we decided to drape two different backdrop curtains to achieve that gorgeous layered effect which we were sure would work perfectly with the under the sea mermaid theme. The plain white double layer backdrop curtain on the back with the shimmering purple sequin backdrop curtains draped on a backdrop stand which we gathered and tied back on the sides gave a truly surreal appeal to our mermaid party backdrop. In case you feel that this pairing of plain curtains with sequin curtain panels doesn’t do justice, you can also opt for iridescent sequin curtains as your rear curtains for that extra bit of glimmer and sheen.  To evoke the look of a grand mermaid grotto entrance, we placed our tall silver mosaic floor vases on both sides of the backdrop stand and bedecked it with lovely lavender and white floral bouquets as you can see in the video for imperial grandeur and extravagance.

Once we were done installing and setting our backdrop curtains, it was time to adorn it with decorative accessories to further enhance the aesthetics. With our online store loaded with event decor supplies, choosing hanging backdrop decor accessories that won’t steal away the limelight but will help reinforce the mermaid theme could be a bit overwhelming.  As we wanted to keep things simple, we settled on decorating our mermaid party backdrop with balloons and paper fan decorations to imbue a peppy charm. The unique green marble 4D orb balloons suspended from the top of the backdrop stand along with some iridescent honeycomb hanging decorations perfectly mimicked the bubbles rising from the bottom of the ocean which brought flair to our mermaid theme party decorations.

Table Linens

Considering that no mermaid party could ever be complete without scales and sparkles, we didn’t look any further than our sequin tablecloths to ingeniously style our tablescape. Hence, we have given our table a sumptuous drape with the classic turquoise sequin tablecloth and paired it with a plush turquoise-colored big Payette sequin table linen adding layers of sparkling luster. The outstanding shine and shimmer of the big Payette sequins which are intricately sewn into the mesh cloth not only elegantly emulated the gorgeous mermaid scales but also accentuated our thematic decorations tenfold. However, we didn’t just stop there, we went a little above and beyond with our table decor and unfurled a lavender-colored organza table runner along the middle of the table for a subtle contrast and topped it with a teal-hued satin table runner which created a plain yet glossy canvas to showcase the striking tabletop decorations we had in mind for our mermaid party table decor not to mention the graceful addition of yet another shade of the ocean into our decor.

Centerpieces

As soon as the base of our table was ready, we moved on to creating stunning centerpieces to evoke splendor and magnificence. Since we were taking under the sea as our guiding inspiration, we had tons of fascinating mermaid party centerpiece ideas, so we took a gamble and bedecked our table with several different showpieces to elevate our table aesthetics up by several notches. And boy did it pay off! Because we had been looking forward to try our hand at recreating the wondrous seabed, we decided to bedeck our sleek round glass bubble bowls with turquoise and lavender large ice crystals creating a gorgeously bejeweled seabed that was perfect for this glamorous mermaid theme set up. With the white shell boxes which we filled with faux pearls sitting on the bed of crystals and a couple of lavender hued blooms creatively placed inside the glass bowls, our seabed showpieces looked truly whimsical when we positioned them on either end of our table.

While the enchanting glass bowl decorations featuring an alluring floral touch beautifully covered the whimsical aspect of our thematic decorations, adding radiance to our tablescape was next on the agenda. Hence, keeping our theme in mind, we thought candles, shells, and pearls would be the perfect combination for a stunning mermaid party centerpiece decor. Thus, we have perched our gleaming metallic rose gold colored candles on an oval mirror encircling them with multiple strings of faux ivory pearls which has brought height and drama centerstage. Moreover, we have also placed small round mirrors embellished with assorted seashells and turquoise or clear votive holders to fill up the empty spots on the table runner for a classy and elegant flair.

Additional Decorations

In order to perk things up a bit more, we decided to speckle a handful of iridescent foil confetti dots with a mix of tissue paper and foil confetti in various tones of blue to add pops of shine. We also randomly scattered around some natural seashells and placed seashell boxes on the runner enriching the table with beautiful accents that were perfect for the magical mermaid theme decorations. Although the crystal clear seashell boxes looked graceful as it is, you can also choose to fill them up with decorative sand, glitter, pearls, and other theme-appropriate accessories to further augment their visual appeal.

Place Settings

Once the centerpieces and all the other sparkly accents were set on the table, the only thing left to complete our mermaid party table decorations were the place settings. For which we chose our lime-colored beaded charger plates and topped them with flared disposable white plates and sequin napkins that were held together with spiral napkin rings. The striking contrast of vibrant turquoise, purple, and lime green hues with a touch of sparkling dazzle instantly added a flamboyant charm to the tablescape. As for the cutlery and glassware, we arranged our white handled silverware and flared flutes with clear detachable bases on the side for an elegant yet charming allure. We don’t know about you, but we think that any party table setting is incomplete without party favors set along with the dinner plates, so we have used our white and turquoise-colored 4D triangle shaped favor boxes to hold our party favors which not only went beautifully with the color theme but the unique shape of the boxes emulated the pointy rocks under the sea.

Chair Decor

Because we wanted to go all out with our lavish mermaid party decorations, it was only fitting that we decorated our chairs as well for a lovely cohesive appeal. Thus, in order to stick to our striking color palette, we swapped out our regular dining chairs with metallic silver colored chairs and dressed them up with our glistening iridescent sequin chair caps which gave a dazzling allure to the chairs.
